4 Steps to a Successful Social Media Business Strategy

As any business owner would tell you, using social media to promote your business, product or service means you must be able to connect with your audience. Your potential new customer will likely be searching their social media networks to find information about you, such as company reviews posted by other customers. This company feedback could be both positive and negative.

However, just because your company utilizes social media for business does not necessarily mean that the strategy you are using is efficient. In order to achieve desirable results there are some critical decisions to make and steps to take prior to launching a social media marketing campaign.

1. Recognize Your Audience

In order to successfully reach your target market you must first and foremost understand who they are.  Which websites do they frequently visit? What are their interests? Having a clear idea of exactly who you’re looking to attract will make it much easier to determine whether or not you are achieving your social media marketing goals.

In a perfect world, social media marketers will know exactly how their audience is going to react to their content. However, it’s best not to assume that you know, because chances are you don’t exactly. Open up a dialogue with your existing and potential customers about what they’d like to see and hear from you. Also review social media analytics whenever possible to see what tends to work and what does not. Your findings may just surprise you.

2. Understand What Your Brand Is All About

You know your business inside and out, but are you conveying that in a way that’s easy for your audience to understand? One way to ensure that you are is to keep your message consistent across all social media platforms.

Audience members may become confused if they sense multiple “voices” coming from the brand. Your social media messages should represent one, unified and faceless identity.

3. Know How to Reach Your Audience

One of the most simplistic yet critical steps in successfully reaching your target market is understanding HOW to reach them. Social media platforms offer a wide variety of ways to utilize these services as marketing tools.

With platforms like Twitter and Facebook constantly shifting, what worked for your brand six months ago may no longer be effective. It’s important to stay on top of the ever-changing social media trends and practices. Having the help of social media tools and resources is a huge advantage and can make all the difference.

4. Test, Tweak and Optimize

Unless you have a crystal clear idea of what your audience likes, finding that sweet spot may be difficult at first.  It’s imperative to test various concepts and types of content to see what works best. The next step is tweaking the content that works best in an effort to optimize your social media posts.

The key is finding what your audience responds to best and continuing to make adjustments where needed. Attempt to create a surefire strategy that will consistently engage and interest your audience.  If your audience members know, like and trust you chances are much greater that they will become loyal customers.
